Owing to increase of Postal work at Hoi-

how the allowance to the postal agent there has on the reco ---

mendation of the Acting Postanster General been increased to

$300 per annum,

The increasing importance of the Foochew

office has necessitated the appointment of an Assistant at $180

per annum at that port.

The 4 additional post men at the Shanghai

are rendered necessary by the increase in area over which

mail matter has to be delivered.

Extra lighting will be necessary at the

Post Office next year to light the extension which is being

added to the premises.

The increase in rents for Branch Post

Offices is due to the rents for the office in the Western Dis- triệt

provided an additional sum to cover allowances for overtime ・・

work being paid to Chinese employees in the Post Office in the

same way as they are paid to Europeans and Portuguese in the

Department.

A sum of $1400 has been provided to cover

the cost of 322 locked boxes for private boxholders who will

be thus enabled to obtain their mails at intervals while the mail is being sorted instead of waiting till the whole mail
